Microsoft Surface Tablets After 'Xbox' Success

Microsoft has always been a leader in computing and gaming products; but it was not the same a decade back. In 2001 when Microsoft launched Xbox, it was new to the gaming market and was taking a huge risk with this venture. But it was successful in the battle because of the direct-to-consumer marketing approach by Microsoft.

That means the Xbox was launched for general public directly without any prior leaks or rumors. Microsoft launched a new Xbox 360, a few days before Nintendo and Sony were about to launch their products. This was done through a pre-planned event, giving it an edge over the competition.

Keeping in mind the Direct to Consumer approach, Microsoft launched ‘Microsoft Surface’ Tablet it in a mystery event which was planned instantaneously.

In the early days if you had asked anyone about Xbox, he would have boasted of about a gaming console used to play HALO on it. But now if you ask someone you will get back a huge list of things it can do with it, from playing games to watching movies to online media and what not. It has become an entertainment hub for your room. You would be amazed to know that about 50% times it is used for non-gaming purposes.

Similarly, we all are amazed in to see how the Surface bridges the gap between a tab and a PC. Its configurations are better than a tablet but it is still more portable than most of the available laptops. This is how Microsoft always improves its products by using innovative technology.

Moreover Microsoft brought out the biggest innovations in the way people communicate with devices. With ‘Kinect’ Microsoft started a new legacy of controller free gaming which anyone may utilize and involves physical activity as well. Microsoft sold more than 8 million pieces of Kinect within the first two weeks. This is the second such acceptance for a new interface, after the ‘Mouse’ which was also introduced by Microsoft. The Xbox as well as Kinect has been a giant success for the Microsoft for the last decade. With the repetition of so many innovations with the Surface, the success is also expected to repeat.

So it can be said that Microsoft has kept its reputation of offering delightful surprises to its users through Microsoft Surface.

This is the first of its kind tablet which is neither a tab, nor a laptop because it has features of the both. The users heard the word ‘VaporMg’ for the first time because it is actually the first time someone has used magnesium alloy vapor deposition case surrounding a tablet. The spectators also munched on the very innovative ‘touch cover’  which comes with the tab that integrates the power of the touch and the keyboard interface.

We also had the Windows 8 running officially on any tab for the first time which looked brilliant with its live interface. Not to forget the Intel’s latest Ivy-Bridge processors with strong processing power, still causing a lot less heat than its predecessors. This is in fact the very first tablet to run on these processors; till date, there are only a few ultra-books that use these processors. So hats off to Microsoft for this giant leap. The device
also has body frame cooling vents, the first of its kind to be ever used yet.

In addition this tab has a sleek and simple but very useful kickstand embedded into its back which will come out whenever needed. You can use it while taking a self-snapshot or while watching movies. This is a really simple feature but was missing in any of the tabs available yet. So once again there has been very innovative thinking by Microsoft.

We also had a glimpse of the Gorilla Glass 2 display integrated with the Microsoft’s True Type HD display technology utilizing digital ink sampling which gives a very vibrant display experience to the user. The screen, being very close to the glass, gives the feeling of writing on a paper.

The tab also has office suite 2013 for student and business professionals which is optimized for touch devices and makes the tab even more versatile.

So in a nutshell the Surface has all the features expected form Microsoft, ranging from a premium look to a perfect blend of the latest hardware and software, both from Microsoft. All these have become trademarks of a Microsoft product. The Xbox was placed at around 150$, which was unbelievably affordable, even for a new breed of gaming consoles. Let us hope the same is done for this ‘most amazing tablet yet.’
